It’s Time For Stricter Knife Control Laws

Today in Texas, over a dozen people were tragically stabbed, sliced and maimed as a madmen went on a blood thirsty spree through Lone Star College with murder on his mind.

As someone who has long argued that knives are far too dangerous, I would like to use today’s event as a platform to illustrate the need for stricter knife laws.  Laws that are obviously very ineffective in stopping crazy people like this man.

For starters, I wish to implore you to imagine if there had been no knifes in the entire country today, (except of course for those used by the police and other government agents who have been properly trained).

Sure there are those who will argue that using knives has been a part of their day to day life since childhood and dates back for centuries, but surely they would be willing to recognize that not another person should be forced to experience bodily harm and even death simply because of their customs.  I mean it’s not like owning a knife is a constitutionally protected right, like say, uhm… gun ownership.

Secondly, until we can ban them altogether, I wish to empower the federal government to collect a database and monitor all the people in the country who own a knife – as today’s events prove – we need to know who does and does not own a knife so that we can better monitor their medications, associations and behavior.  We just never know when they’re going to strike and our children deserve better.

Perhaps local newspapers from around the country could offer us a helping hand by listing the names of these individuals we’ve published in their publications each week.  Maybe they can even put their names and addresses on their websites.  This may shame them into turning their knife(s) into authorities and they will even be shunned by those of us who believe knives are bad.  If we’re lucky they may even get fired.  In nothing else, all their neighbors will know that they’re probably a bad person, because after all, they own a knife.

Maybe we should consider laws banning the number of blades that can fit into the average knife drawer or even how many knives a single person should be permitted to own.  After all, only a crazy freak would want to own several knifes.

Sure, it will take much longer than I would like to see, but I am confident that if we keep up the pressure, victory will eventually be ours.  Hopefully, we can get the United Nations onboard and pass several international agreements – soon, regardless of how many American politicians are in the pockets of the knife industry, we will silence their opposition via international law – finally ridding this beautiful country of these evil devices…  Except of course for the ones owned by the government and their highly trained agents.

Though no nation has ever entirely rid themselves of knives, the United Kingdom once did something similar with guns.  Today, their violent crime rate is five times higher than that of the United States…
